Why won’t the Department of Motor Vehicles call you to tell you your licenses is suspended? Do they have some kind of agreement with the police where they arrest people who find out that they have a broken tail light, and oh yeah, a WARENT for their arrest. Some of us like to be on time, but they call us speeders. Some of us are liberated by our country and like to park where we want. Should we get a ticket for parking in the patriotic red zone? Just kidding!
But seriously, how is anyone to know if they have a warrant for something like an unpaid ticket or a traffic violation. I know, I know, pay the ticket once you receive it and be done with it right. But what about those who send in their money order to that ant sized country town Sheriff’s Department, but they don’t receive it because it gets lost in the mail or some weird alien from outer space nukes it or something.
What I’m saying is that there should be a better way to inform drivers that they have a suspended license before they get the thick silver bracelets cuffed to their wrists. It’s embarrassing to be patted down and have your car searched on the side of the road just because you forgot that ticket you received for trying to park a little closer to the building in an employee space where you don’t work. Not only do you get a $200 something night stay behind strapping bars, you get to meet good ole wholesome cellmates, have a chat with the local judge at a court appearance that is scheduled when you have work/school, meet more friendly criminals of the law in the courtroom, and pay a handsome court fee as well as the ticket that got you into this mess in the first place.
Wouldn’t it be better if the DMV had a system that notified them that a person now has a suspended license? They could have a special department where people call to inform you if you have a suspended license or a warrant for your arrest. If DMVs can’t afford to hire these informants they can use a recorded computer file that calls anyone who is flagged in the system. But I guess that would take money away from the DMV, the Sheriff’s Department, the bail bondsmen, and the state you get arrested in.
Has this ever happened to you or anyone you know? How can we get back at the system by preventing this ripple effect?
